Current:

Hi there folks!

My name is AJ Gillespie and I am an animator for visual effects and game development. I am currently based out of the Greater Los Angeles area, where I have set up shop for the last 3 ish years doing freelance animation. Currently I am freelancing for Ingenuity Engine, leading their animation department in the development of several feature film, commercial, and music video projects.

Past:

I grew up all over the place. I have lived everywhere from CO to NJ to Japan (yes I do speak japanese hah) to CA. With no real place to call home it wasn't difficult to pick up and roll whenever the job asked it of me though it wasnt always animation and computers. No siree. I spent 3 years after college before becoming an animator trying to get a job in this industry doing whatever it took to keep my belly full and apartment warm. In essence, "put in my time". During that time I worked as a fork lift operator, a hot tar roofer, a gamestop employee and at my worst, the kangaroo at a roller rink (seriously...I did...ughhhh....). After finally getting a job as an animator for "Twin Skies", my skills grew and grew. Twin Skies soon fell victim to the almighty reduction in workforce and we all found ourselves without income. Now Im not one to roll over and die, so I picked myself up and hit the animation running. I eventually found myself thoroughly enjoying freelancing and though I would absolutely prefer staff full time, I also love my place as a freelancer.

Future:

Originally I was all for game development. However, film and broadcast have seriously grown on me especially since Skyline and definitely while working with the awesome guys at IE, so Id like to continue doing both if I can. So long as I get to make cool things do cool stuff...Im down for anything.

Thanks for reading!
